Brooklyn-based artist Melissa Zexter may have found a way to make embroidery cool again. She combines hand-stitched embroidery with photography, creating layers of narrative and texture over a flat surface. By sewing directly onto photographs, she reveals another side of the silent imagery that guarantees to hold the viewer transfixed to the spot. The act of sewing further amplifies the connection to a fragmented story of emotions and moments, transforming these portraits from objects of nostalgia into something even more thought-provoking.
