The Mystery Light Painting Video of Anssi Määttä

This light painting video created by 26-year-old Finnish director Anssi Määttä will give you something to rack your brain over.  It is 100% live action without using any still photo, stop motion, or 3D stroke effect.  The only plausible explanation we have found so far is a webcam program called Light Paint Live that allows you to paint with light.  But regardless of his method,  Määttä's mystery video had us at the first stroke of light.  Watch the video and see for yourself.

Software is starting to emerge for realtime light painting. There’s a bit of software out there I’ve used by Santiago Di Lorenzo in Argentina, goes by the name of LooZ. It does something pretty similar to this. There’s a couple of lads in Finland, Hannu Huhtamo and Janne Parvanien, who have designed software to so the same. The Aurora light painters in Texas, USA also have some snazzy stuff that helped them get on ‘America’s got talent’.

    It’s all good stuff :)
