Monsanto is a beautiful village built in the Portuguese countryside, Southeast of Serra da Estrela. The mountain rock is granite, so naturally caves and rocks are being converted into construction parts. The narrow streets are carved from rock and granite houses are squeezed between giant boulders, making it one of the most unique historical villages in Europe. In recent decades, Monsanto has become popularly known as "the most Portuguese village of Portugal."
