American artist Stephen Knapp is best known for his "lightpaintings", which are light-based installations created using a special glass that act as a selective prism to separate focused light into different wavelengths of the color spectrum. Knapp cuts, shapes, and polishes the glass in his studio to create a palette that he uses to refract and reflect light onto a surface and surrounding space.
14 of Knapp's works, plus one exterior piece, are currently on view at the exhibit "Stephen Knapp: New Light" (June 17 – September 16, 2012) at the Hyde Collection.
