Brooklyn-based painter Rebecca Riley uses various types of maps as a structure from which to build an invented world. Her most recent work "Randomland", on display at the Flatiron Prow Art Space, is a gorgeous collage of maps that reflect the increasing irrelevance of physical location due to advances in instant cyber and cellular communication.
I have come to see each city as a kind of living organism, its growth directed, misdirected, and sometimes out of the control of its human inhabitants. ~ Rebecca Riley
On view June 28 – September 21, 2012. Find out more about the exhibition here.
