The HEX and WAVE curtains by Ronald Rael and Virginia San Fratello of Rael San Fratello Architects are designed to bridge the gap between the theory and practice of eco-design. The HEX curtain reacts to daylight conditions by opening and closing automatically. On a sunny summer day the curtain remain closed, but on a sunny winter day the curtain are opened to allow sun to enter the interior and warm the space.
The WAVE curtain, on the other hand, is a passive solar curtain that is designed to admit the low winter sun into the building interior. It is consisted of cylindrical tubes so one can always has access to exterior views -even when the sun is being blocked. The WAVE curtain is 3D printed from a white recyclable thermoplastic.
