"Chrysalis (Contents May Shift In Transit)" by Troy Gua created for the Mad Home Project addresses the themes of commerce, commodity and consumption with the conversion of the doomed house at 723 Bellevue Ave East into a product, a package ready for shipment. On another level, the piece is designed to represent a cocoon, a place of warmth and protection, a place of transformation, development, and rebirth.
The artist intends to turn the 22,000+ feet of recycled shrink wrap into sculptural bricks to build a new structure. The bar code on the front of the house reads, if scanned :
$1.00: the price the house is offered at should the buyer agree to also pay the house's transportion and relocation costs.
