American artist Jeff Nishinaka works wonders with paper. He felt a kinship with this particular medium during his days in the prestigious Art Center College of Design. From then on, he began experimenting with different papers and learning its characteristic. His largest installation to date was the one commissioned by the ANA Hotel in Tokyo. This installation of breathtaking natural scenery measured approximately 20 feet tall x 20 feet wide x 10 feet deep.
I wanted to manipulate paper in the least invasive way, to keep the integrity and feel of it. Paper to me is a living, breathing thing that has a life of it's own. I just try to redirect that energy into something that feels animated and alive. ~ Jeff Nishinaka
Jackie Chan, who is a close friend of the artist, owns the largest collection of Nishinaka's work.
